Monna Barrick

Hi, I’m Monna Barrick, originally from Oklahoma and have lived in Mesa, Arizona for many years. Since 1982,

I have been lucky enough to make my living as an artist, having studied with such notables as Leon Franks, John Howard Sanden, Bettina Steinke, Leslie DeMille and Norman Rockwell’s famous art course instructors.

Some of my art images are printed by La Casa Card Company of Arizona as greeting cards.

My works are impressionism and are mostly done with palette knife, combining some details with the brush. I love to paint all subjects including this beautiful desert so rich in color.

A wonderful influence in my life was my late husband Jim Barrick, a professional artist in his own right.  I learned many valuable lessons from him. I now teach art and painting two days a week in Mesa.

Life is great when your job is doing what you love!

I really hope you like what you see here as much as I enjoy painting them. Thank you for looking!

Monna

Monna says life is great when your job is something you love. When working on her paintings she says, “I keep in mind that I must do with my subjects, something no photographer could do. I feel if I painted like a photographer, why paint? Why not just take a photograph? A painting has to create the feeling that exists, but cannot be photographed.”

Monna also does commissions for pet portraits as well as most other subjects. She usually does head and shoulder portraits of pets. If you would like your pet painted, bring her a good photo or one that can be enlarged. Monna says, “I treat the pet portrait just as I would a human portrait. The eyes are the key. They are the windows to the soul.” The above portrait of was commissioned by Barbra Lashmet, her pet “Curby” was found on a curb. Monna has studied with many well-known artists, Leon Franks, John Howard Sanden, Battina Stinke and Leslie B. DeMille. She studied Norman Rockwell’s famous art course. A wonderful influence and artist in her life was her husband, Jim Barrick, now deceased. She learned many valuable lessons from him. Monna’s style is impressionism.
